Every Sunday, I have the incredible privilege of teaching Sunday School to children from the local children’s home and nearby slum communities, where many children live in extreme poverty. I love exploring the stories of Bible heroes with them and helping them understand just how amazing God is—how powerful He is to care for and protect His children, and how deeply He loves each one of them.
One of my favorite parts of our time together is giving each child a coloring page and crayons. These children don’t have access to crayons or art supplies because of the poverty they live in, so being able to create their own artwork brings them such joy.
After they finish, I take a photo of each child holding their masterpiece. They love seeing their photo—it gives me a special moment to get close, tell them how talented and unique they are, and remind them that they are beautifully made.
This simple activity is one of the ways we Go Near to those in need—meeting these children where they are, sharing God’s love, and celebrating their creativity and worth. I hope these moments help the children experience God’s love, discover their own creativity, and know that they are valued and cherished.
I pray these children feel the love of Jesus, who seeks them out and wants to be with them, just as He did with Zacchaeus
