Our vision is to see communities transformed by mobilizing people and resources to empower orphans, widows, prisoners, and the poor in Kenya.
Go Near is dedicated to both going and giving, mobilizing both people and resources to the people of Kenya. When our volunteers go near to serve the poor, they gain a greater sense of purpose and perspective for their lives. Many return from serving overseas to launch philanthropic initiatives of their own. By pairing the presence and assistance of people with donated resources, we increase the impact made by the volunteer teams, who deliver suitcases full of donated school and vocational training supplies, clothes, and Bibles to distribute to those in dire need. So, whether you go or you give, your contribution plays a critical role in this ministry.
Empowerment creates sustainable, lasting impact. We partner with trusted ministries to help provide education, vocational training and gospel-driven ministry.
In Kenya, women’s abandonment, discrimination, and abuse is rampant, both in city slums and in rural areas. In many cases, women are trapped indefinitely in extreme poverty, left without skills to provide for themselves or their families. This is especially true for widows. While in Kenya, our volunteers encourage women who are in vocational training with James 127 Foundation and working with Jimani. Through these two ministries, launched from Go Near, women can find hope in Christ and power to change their lives.
The children of Kenya are the future of their country. However, countless children are living in the streets of harsh slums or desperate rural cultures without any hope for a future free from poverty. We help care for children rescued from abuse, abandonment, and the cruelty of living on the streets. We go near to be a part of helping children survive and have hope for a better future.
Our team of volunteers, along with local ministers, visits prisons in Kenya to offer encouragement, hope, and much needed resources. We distribute Bibles, supplies, and clothing while sharing the life-giving messages of the Gospel. The prisons in Kenya are full of people who are desperate and eager for the Word of God, and they receive us with gratefulness and hearts open to the Gospel.
We seek to partner with trusted local ministries that serve full-time in Kenya. Our goal is to provide resources and volunteers that further the work of their ministry and encourage them in their faith. With this model of service, we help equip the local church to thrive even in our absence, guaranteeing sustainable development that is not dependent on our presence.
Go Near trips results in visible transformation. We see life ignited in the hearts of those rescued from abuse and abandonment. We see women empowered as they learn skills to provide for themselves and their children. But this is not all we see when we go near. We also see significant transformation in the volunteers who join us overseas as they make a difference in the lives of the poor. They gain a greater perspective and sense of purpose and are deeply impacted by the faith, worship, and joy of those we go to serve. We all experience a great exchange. Those who are served and those who are serving are both blessed by one another.
We’re proud to promote these organizations birthed out of an experience with Go Near.
