Widows Sewing Empowerment Project

A joyful trainee

Widows Sewing Empowerment Go Near Ministry partners with Pastor George Otieno to provide a  1 1/2 year sewing training program that empowers 16 widows from Gituamba slums to provide for themselves and their children. These women participate in a sewing training 5 days a week. Upon completion of the sewing training, these women will be fully equipped and receive their own sewing machine to launch a small tailoring business of their own. Pastor George, a committed community development leader along with his wife, Jackie provide pastoral care for the widows in this program.

Local materials have been purchased for trainees to make uniforms for  students in need of uniforms who attend Uzimatele primary school in Gituamba slums. We hope to empower these women to sew uniforms for other local primary schools in the Gituamba area.

A fund has been established to provide food and assistance for the widow’s children’s  school fees while the women are in training.
