Go Near Ministry was established as a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization by Lewis and Melody Taylor in 2005 to respond to God’s call to care for widows and orphans in their distress (James 1:27). They served as advocates and invited others to life-changing relationships caring for widows and orphans in Little Rock and Guatemala. In 2007, the Taylors moved to Nairobi, Kenya to fully engage in serving widows, orphans and the poor in Africa.
Although the ministry’s home base has moved back to Arkansas, work continues in Nairobi that was begun by the Taylors. Expansion of Uzimatele Educational Center in Gituamba slums, numerous feeding programs, women’s empowerment programs, the Little Rock Center for Disabled Children and educational programs in African schools. Mobilizing volunteers to serve the poor of Kenya has become a priority of the ministry.
Melody Taylor is the Executive Director of Go Near Ministry, and the following are members of the Board of Directors: Amy Daniel, Peggy Jones, Stephine Lacey, David Mangan, April McMorran, Nancy Puddephatt, Belinda Shelton, and Cheryl Williams.
The ministry’s vision is to continue advocate for the poor, widows and orphans to community, church and school groups and mobilize others to empower the poor through fundraising opportunities and volunteer trips.
