Go Near Ministry was established as a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization by Lewis and Melody Taylor in 2005 to respond to God’s call to care for widows and orphans in their distress (James 1:27). They served as advocates and invited others to life-changing relationships caring for widows and orphans in Little Rock and Guatemala. In 2007, the Taylors moved to Nairobi, Kenya to fully engage in serving widows, orphans and the poor in Africa.
Although the ministry’s home base has moved back to Arkansas, work continues in Nairobi that was begun by the Taylors. Support for feeding programs, women’s vocational training, the Kenyan Center for Disabled Children and support of the ABC Center for rescued street children are their focus. Mobilizing volunteers to serve the poor of Kenya has become a priority of the ministry. To date, more than 100 individuals have traveled with Go Near to serve the poor and forgotten in Kenya. These trips are often life changing experiences, and many have returned and started new initiatives to serve others.
Melody Taylor is the Executive Director of Go Near Ministry, and the following are members of the Board of Directors: Amy Daniel, Bob Fegtly, Peggy Jones, David Mangan, April McMorran, Anthony Otwell, Nancy Puddephatt, Kim Schrader, and Cheryl Williams. The ministry’s goals to raise funds and mobilize volunteers are achieved through adult and student volunteers.
The ministry’s vision is to continue advocate for the poor, widows and orphans to community, church and school groups and mobilize others to empower the poor through fundraising opportunities and volunteer mission service trips.
